A 3rd teen just died as a result of the Ohio school shooting.
So heartbreaking. I thank my lucky stars every day (and have since Columbine) that my kids come home from school in one piece.
I really don't know what the problem is. Part of me thinks it's parenting. Not necessarily bad parenting, but just not being aware of what our kids are doing, what problems they're facing, etc. But also, you know I grew up around guns. I never DREAMED of taking one to school to solve my problems. Ever. I don't know why kids use that as an out. It escapes me and frightens me.
Jake had an incident this weekend with his friend's brother. They were having a sleepover, and the younger boys were taunting the older brother, and the next thing you know it's a melee and Jake came home early with a lot of scratches all over him. And my gut feeling was hoping that his dad gave him the what-for, but OTOH I'm hoping maybe he just talked to him because you don't know what kids will do. I think his response was over the top, but they're boys and boys I've found are quite ridiculous. I am, of course, appalled. I mean, my boys are fairly physical with each other, but were they to lay a hand on one of their siblings friends, well. The belt would be in order for certain.
It's just awful...isn't it!!!
You're both exactly right about how sad it is.
