Marissa Mayer,CEO of Yahoo, recently sent out a memo, banning Yahoo's employees from working at home:
What's even more disappointing, imo, is that Marissa is a mom herself! I would have thought she would be more understanding of the logistical challenges working moms face but it appears this is not the case. Of course, this is the same woman who only took a mere two week maternity leave so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, sigh.
When I was laid off a couple years ago, one of the reasons why was because the companies were wanting to move towards hiring people who could come into the office. When I was looking for work, my options were severly limited by not living in California or New York and being able to come into an office. I fear that moves like this are only going to encourage companies even more to move away from WAHM (and dads). Maybe they should try reading one of the MANY studies that support the idea that employees working from home are indeed quite productive!
"The study's results revealed that people who worked from home were 13 percent more productive than people working in an office. The study also showed that people working from home were more efficient. "
The above is just one of many studies that prove this. It's really a shame that more companies often just assume that "the office is the best and only way".
