Welcome Kathy,

I hope you find a lot of friends here. I'm Ellie and I sell Usborne books at home shows, schools, libraries, book fairs etc. There are a few other ladies here who do medical transcription and billing - you should find some great folks here.

Hi, Kathy! Welcome to the board! I def. understand what it's like to work at home (or TRY to work at home while your 4yo is hanging on your arm and screaming!) ;-). I'm a Pampered Chef consultant, and although I do shows outside the home about once or twice a week, I do some things at home (phone calls, paperwork, etc.), so finding time for those things can be a bit rough (which is why I'm online at midnight!) ;-) Looking forward to getting to know you better!

Kathy,

I am a lurker here and work full-time outside the home, but want to work at home and medical transcription is what I am looking into. I have seen some hospitals in my area offering positions working from home but the hours seem restricted.

For the hospital work you do, do you work a "shift" or when you can get the work done? Also, do they pay hourly or by the line? The hospital I contacted paid by the line but the HR rep didn't know how much it was. Do you find you can make enough money to make it worth it? It seems like it takes alot to make a decent amount of money working with transcription.

Thanks for any input you could offer.

Yep, the hours are pretty restricted.
