Hi friends: I used to be a subsitute teacher in NJ and really, really loved it. But the jobs were on and off (if the regular teacher was absent, I'd sub in her absence) and I wanted to work everyday in a school setting. Moreover, my in-laws live with me and I wanted to get away from them for a few hours every day.
I got this job as an instructional assistant at a montessori school. It's been only 2 days and I am already bored out of my mind! There's very little to do except remind the kids to use their manners, be nice etc and clean the floor. I am already missing the public school environment and the many different teachers and students I could meet. I never thought I would feel badly about this job and miss the public schools and I feel depressed about this whole situation.
How do I quit gracefully and get a good reference from the montessori director? What is a decent time frame to quit - six months??? I don't know if I can last that long.
Since I am not certified, I cannot teach the kids. Also, they are short-staffed, so they want me to come in early, stay late etc.
Pl, pl. no flames - I went into this with my eyes open and prepared to clean the floors; something just snapped inside me today as I cleaned the same floor for the 4th time.
Thanks so much,
Chimi
