Hello everyone. I apologize that this is so long....I used to be a lurker to this board but since DH and I have finally had the discussion, I decided join. :)
We have a 7 month old son, Liam (12/05/09) and when he was about 3 months old, my husband make a remark about trying for another one. I was like, "are you joking or being serious" he paused and said "I don't know"....So we decided to wait to have the conversation. We agreed we wouldn't bring it up until Mid-September (Liam will be 9 months and we will have just gotten back from our vacation that I really didn't want to be pregnant during)
Well, jumping ahead to a few weeks ago, we get the ball rolling on me going back to school. I've decided on a career change and am now enroll full time in evening classes and stay home with Liam during the day. When we were going through this process, DH said "well, I guess we'll have to put off having another baby until you graduate" I graduate in December 2011, Liam will have just turned 2. So we decided to push back the decision for a year, around August 2011. That way, if we decide the time is right, I'll only have a few months left of school and it may take that long to get pregnant anyways.
I'll admit I was a bit bummed at first as I really would've enjoyed having them be about 18 months apart, I think. But now that I think about it I think it is a good idea, for a couple reasons:
1) I won't have to go through school being uber pregnant (I did that when pregnant with Liam and it was hard)
2) A 2 year age gap isn't bad and it's still pretty close....my older brother and I are 2 1/2 years and altho we fought, we have a lot of the same memories and friends whereas my younger sister is 4 years younger than me and constantly felt left out and has completely different memories. Same with my DH and his brother who are more than 5 years apart...they don't get along hardly at all. We just know we want them at least 1 year apart but no more than 3, if we can help it
3) Financially, we will be better off. When we got pregnant with Liam, I was working full time, we were renting a big house by the University (and renting a room to a friend to help with bills) and we were paying off credit cards and student loans and were about a year from being able to buy a house. Well, I got pregnant, got laid off and our roommate decided she was gonna move out earlier than expected. Now, we're living on DH's income alone, I'm a stay at home mom and we moved into a smaller place. So, the house-buying plans are on hold until we clear some more debt and save more...but I can't complain too much as our small townhouse is much better than the big (expensive) house by the University so living expenses were literally cut in half :D
Anyhoo- thanks for making it this far! I guess my whole point is...we are WTT! :D
