So, I recently finished submitting Ph.D. applications to Wisconsin, Washington, North Carolina, Florida, and Carleton (a university in Ottawa, Canada). Yesterday, after a terrible morning that started with my car door refusing to shut because somehow the hinge had frozen and missing class because of it, while waiting to meet with a professor, I got an email invitation to interview for a fellowship at the University of North Carolina. I practically deafened my colleagues when I saw it. Then, while waiting for a brake job to be done on my car, I got an email letter of acceptance from the University of Florida. No word on funding, but this is a good sign. I'll definitely have some decisions to make soon. And believe me, after the past couple of months, I really needed a "win." Those letters were what I needed to be sure I could survive the next several months.
