A little background first. My son Joshua will be 9 next week, and is in the third grade. He has ADHD, and his last two teachers have said they felt he was gifted. We have gone to the school to have a plan set up for him, they are testing him for speech which seems to be their only area of concern with him. I should be getting notice for the next meeting to discuss the results, etc within the next week or two. Also during his initial meeting we discussed having him tested for the gifted program. Both the principal as well as his teacher seemed to be pushing the fact that he is gifted, and seems to be bored with the curriculum.
So this leads to my question, I just got the results back from his gifted testing. His total score is 119 the requirement for gifted is 125. I'm okay with that, but what I'm not okay with is the one part of the test that made him lower is the area that focuses on "concentration and attention". UMM....HELLOOOO....the boy has ADHD! Don't you think there should be some kind of provisions made there? He tested "Superior" and "High Average" in all other areas of the test. So while I don't want to push for him to be put into the actual gifted program, I feel that there should be SOME kind of program for kids like him, so he doesn't fall through the cracks, KWIM?
