Hi my name is Karen and I have 3 wonderful girls. My second daughter Megan has been behind ever since Kindergarten. But it hasn't really been apparent that she was that far behind until midway through 3rd grade. But this year, 4th grade, it seems to have gotten a lot worse. She is far behind in every subject.
At the recent parent teacher conference I was bombarded by both her teachers (she has two teachers who take turns teaching through the week) and her reading group teacher. I felt like I was in some sort of a nightmare. She is far behind in reading, writing, and math. The only positive they had to say was that she is a friendly girl.
They say in class she will sit quietly and look like she is hard at work. But when they check her work they find out that she didn't understand the lesson and did the problems wrong. She won't ask for help when she doesn't understand she will just do it the way she thinks it should be done. Every time they do practice work for something they've already learned they have to instruct Megan on how to do the problems. (Say with multiple digit addition problems and how she needs to carry the number over to the left and start with the very right number). Her writing looks like it belongs to a 1st grader and not only is it the misspellings but the incomplete sentences, lack of punctuaction, not using capitalization. We remind her all the time about these things at home, always correcting her homework, and its just very very frustrating.
She has been in speech therapy through her school since the 3rd grade. And even when she was 5 we would have to correct her when she would say "We're going to we're house." or "We are going to we're room." She would say we're instead
