My OSD was diagnosed as ADHD several years ago, long before I met my DH. She was taking Ritalin twice a day but the prescription ran out and we had more pressing issues with her sister (autistic) that needed to be addressed and the result is that she's been off the Ritalin for well over a year now. Her grades are suffering significantly. She's 12, almost 13 and in the 7th grade. She's always failing in at least one class but her school and SPED teacher don't seem concerned by this. DH and I are very concerned and we've now spoken with the principal who is also concerned enough that he's agreed that if her grades don't pick up soon, she'll be repeating the 7th grade next year.
We've done everything we can to help her; we've grounded her, required her to bring her books home, taken privileges away, set up a place for her to do her homework, and nothing has changed. She's still consistently failing she doesn't care. We stripped her room of everything but her bed and dresser and it's been of no consequence to her.She knows that she's dangerously close to repeating the 7th grade but she doesn't seem to care.
I have tried and tried to convince her teachers and her SPED teacher that she needs more interventions that what she's receiving but they don't seem to be on the same page. Going up the food chain isn't going to help us either; I've worked in the school district and they aren't likely to do much more than what's being done now. I can't even convince DH that she needs to be evaluated again. I'm becoming more and more concerned that she's developing ODD and I know that if that's not treated it will likely lead into a conduct disorder.
I'm at my wits end: She and her sister see their birth mother once a month and they won't get to go this weekend because OSD has to attend Saturday school for the third week in a row.
