We've had a long thing with mom. She finally went Thursday afternoon at the hospital. Father Lawrence at her parish was out to pray with her and gave her last rights. We are in the funeral planning stage. Date is set for the 15th. 11am visitation noon for the mass. Father Lawrence is a difficult man to work with. He's a old Croation. Set in his ways. For any of you who know St. Augustine Croation Catholic parish in West Allis Wisconsin. You would understand what I talk about. We had hoped my 2 neices would be the alter servers. They are trained and do it at their own parish. He says No. Then we said how about they do the readings. Both are older 12 and 13 yrs old. They read well. My sister could find the readings in the bible and have her kids practice reading at home. No. I thought my nieces as alter servers should not be a problem. As long as they were properly trained in their parish. Come on. The order of mass is the same no matter what parish you attend. And girls are allowed to serve and do at St. Augustine. Then it was a battle for time of funeral. But we had to do it Friday. As the out of town family cannot get here till maybe Thursday afternoon at the earliest. But would all be here by Thursday evening for sure. We wanted them to have time to get settled in at a hotel. Before rushing off to the funeral. Now we find out the reason Father Lawrence wanted the funeral Wednesday or Thursday. He has to leave at noon on Friday. So a diocese priest would be doing mass instead. Who don't know mom. So some time today. My cousin Geri who is moms power of attorney. Was going to the church today. To iron out the final details. She was going to put her foot down. Demand my nieces at least do the readings if they cannot be servers. I just can't see how planning a simple funeral mass has to be so difficult. Mom is being cremated. Her urn brought to church for the visitation and mass. There will be no funeral home. No casket viewing the night before or anything.
