My twins were born last Tuesday, September 20th, at 38 weeks, via c-section. Harry was born at 10:00 AM and weighed 7 lbs, 4 oz. and was 18.5 inches long. Sophie was born at 10:01 AM and weighed 8 lbs, 1 oz. and was 19.5 inches long. At 1 week old, both babies were back up to birth weight. In fact, Sophie has surpassed her birth weight and weighed 8 lbs, 2.5 oz. Both babies are doing great.
I have had a complication recovering my c-section and I'm wondering if anyone has had/heard of a similar experience. My incision continued to bleed from the day of surgery. On Saturday (the day the twins and I were discharged from the hospital), the doctor diagnosed it as a fluid pocket and completely re-opened the incision. It was packed with gauze and bandaged it up and I was sent home. I have a nurse coming to the house 3 days a week to take out the old gauze and re-pack the incision. The other four days a week, my sister does it (she's a medical assistant). I've been set up to get 9 weeks of visiting nurse services, but I've been told that this will take much, much longer to heal. I'm feeling very sad and angry about this. DH & I went through a lot to get these beautiful babies. I feel like the experience that I was so looking forward to has been taken from me. I physically can't bathe my babies. I can't change their diapers. I can't stand for longer than a few minutes at a time and I can't lift them from their swings or basinettes. The only thing I can do to take care of them is nurse them. While I'm over joyed that my babies are here and healthy, my heart is broken that I can't take care of them.
