Is society obligated to maintain the Santa story?

On a work forum I frequent, a mom posted a bit of a rant about a story on Yahoo's homepage about Justin Bieber's parents not allowing him to believe in Santa. She was outraged that this story exposed Santa as being a fake.

My response was that any child young enough/immature enough to still believe in Santa shouldn't be roaming around online reading news without heavy monitoring
