These last couple of months have been a chaotic mess! I'm sure that's true for all of us in many ways, but I honestly didn't know which way I was coming or going a few times since mid-November.
Long story short, our little Yorkie dog got very, very ill. She had been hospitalized back in Sept in a specialty (aka $$$) clinic a couple of hours away for a life-threatening infection. They mentioned then that we needed to get her liver checked eventually, but we needed to give her time to recover and get her strength back. However, before that could happen fully, she almost died from being septic due to a dying kidney, kidney stones in her other kidney, and a liver problem causing it all. She had to have a major surgery and has been on medication ever since. We brought her home on Thanksgiving day, and now we make the trip every couple of weeks to that same long-distance specialty pet hosp for ultrasounds so we can save the remaining kidney. We even had to give her injections twice a day.
Then, my son's service dog tore his ACL and couldn't walk, so we had to get him repair surgery two weeks ago. Stitches came out this morning and now he can get back to more normal activity. Lifting an 87 pound lab in and out of an SUV for appointments was difficult, and our home entries all have steps, which he couldn't do. I have two herniated discs and two bulging discs and I've spent a lot of time on the heating pad and doing exercises to deal with that pain while trying to not let it interfere with everything else: work, homeschooling, household chores, you name it. Oh, and the holidays! ;)
We had to pull our home off the market (moving back to the west coast) because we couldn't leave mid-stream of all this medical treatment for the pups. Still can't until we finish the little one's stones issue -- if the stones don't dissolve on her meds, she may have to have one more surgery.
Little guy got super-stressed as his dog was hurt, and his tics are worse. One is verbal, and another is hair twirling. He also is cycling in/out of depressive moods and that's really hard to see. School starts back up tomorrow, and I hope I can use routine to help with the tics as well.
Anyway, I hope to be fully present here again..finally. I hope everyone had a good holiday season and happy new year!!
