Part time cloth - recommendations?

I am starting to work on potty training with my one year old. I've used disposables until now (and will likely continue to use them overnight and maybe for naps) but I've read that they can really interfere with the PT process since baby stays too dry. At home I plan to use cloth training pants but need a plan for outings. I think cloth diapers would be a good compromise, catching the mess but allowing DD to feel wet. I would be willing to wash them daily so I think I only need a few diapers. I found an affordable kit: econobum by bum genius that has 3 covers 12 prefolds has anyone used this kit or this brand? Is it fairly easy to use? I've never used cloth but am a quick learner ;-). Does it sound like there is enough to last say 8 hours? Is there something better?
Thanks in advance for reviews/recommendations. Everyone I know is using disposables and waiting until 2 yrs or more to PT so I'm on my own.
Thanks again
