It's hard to believe but it's already berry picking time! My daughter Nicki went to pick strawberries this morning. She makes lots of jelly and jam, and it is just lovely stuff. One thing I never have conquered is making jelly. Probably because it is a technique that involves small amounts and small containers, and I am a batch cook. I can turn out lunch for 500 in the same amount of time that it takes to make a dozen jars of jam.
I might go to the berry farm myself, and put some up in the freezer. AND the farm stands are opening up already! Spring greens and peas are in. There are also a LOT of greenhouses in this area, that produce all winter. I know of one that is 3 1/2 acres indoors, growing tomatoes all year round.
What is fresh in your area?
