So my surprise baby has kept me on my toes proving I am not the one in control. The basics: Nicholas Ashe B. arrived at 1:57pm on Monday June 4th weighing in at 9lbs6oz and 20" long.
So I went in on Monday at 6:30am to begin my induction. When checked around 9:30 I was 3cm and 80% effaced (a change from Friday's 2cm and 50%). The doc was unable to break my water so pitocin was started. I had some contractions, but they weren't bad and I sat in a chair and listened to music. Around noon another doc came in to check my progress and said I was 3.5 cm and thin. She was going to break my water. In the process I progressed to 4cm. That was at 12:15pm. Very quickly contrctions were painful and one on top of another. My DH asked if I wanted the epidural and I said yes. He called the nurse for it. Contractions continued fast and furious and I told DH I was feeling shaky. We thought my sugar was low so we tested and it was 65. I mentioned I was a little sick to my stomach. In the back of my head I was thinking this reminds me of transition, but it seemed too soon and I contributed it to my sugar. Anesthesia came in and started my epidural process. I was struggling through contractions. They tested the line and said it would be about 5-10 minutes for meds to kick in. They had me lay back down and I needed to push immediately. 3 pushes later he was out and about 5 minutes later the epidural kicked in. Nicholas is crying, I have to go.
