I don't even think I knew abortion was illegal in the Dominican Republic. Apparently they are very strict about it!
A 16 year girl living there has leukemia- she's also 9 weeks pregnant. Apparently if she takes the chemotherapy she needs, it will very likely terminate the pregnancy, which is illegal. So she's not been given the treatment she needs to save her life :
Apparently the "bioethics council" is discussing/debating the case but imo, the girl should have been given the chemo YESTERDAY. Every day that they "wait and discuss" is one more day that the cancer can spread!
What do you think? Should the baby's right to life come before the mom's? That argument doesn't make much sense to me b/c if the girl doesn't get her cancer treated, she may not even live long enough to give the baby life!
