Sorry this is a bit late... As many of you know from my previous post, I started having contractions and preterm labor issues a couple weeks ago. (Wednesday 7/25)
After 3 days on bed rest I had my regularly scheduled MFM and OB appointments on Thursday 8/2. The day started off pretty normal, my MIL came to take care of me and the boys in the morning, and I got to sleep in a bit. My first appointment was at 1:45 with the MFM Specialist. When I got there they hooked me up for monitoring for 30 minutes, and recorded several strong contractions. Then they took my blood pressure...151/78... hrm a bit high because mine is nomally 110/60.. took it a second time... 153/80.. this is not looking so great... maybe third times a charm... 148/92.. crap. They send me down the hall to pee in a cup and then in the room for the sono. Sono was great. All they were doing was measuring fluids. Nurse comes in and tells the dr that there was protien in my urine. Sigh...
Dr tells me he's sending me to Labor & Delivery. Do not pass Go.. Do not collect $200... He calls my OB to tell them I'm not going to come to my appointment and to meet me downstairs...
Small panic attack in the elevator because of course, I'm alone! DH is at work, mom and dad are and hour away, MIL is with the boys, and FIL is 2 hours away. Ok... deep breath.. call DH, tried not to cry. He's on the way. Called MIL still trying not to cry, she'll call FIL and get him moving. Called Mom... BALLING.. she'll call my dad and they'll be waiting for the bat symbol to head over.
I get checked in, and by the time I'm settled upstairs, DH is by my side. Thank you for light traffic. Labs, IV, monitoring and BP... then wait.... 3 hours later, doctor comes in and makes every indication that she's about to send me home. Labs look good. BP is normal, and she isn't seeing any contractions on the monitor... wait... what!?!? I'm having contractions like crazy... so she decides to change out the equiptment. New blood pressure cuff, and different kind of contraction monitor. Now we're getting somewhere... 30 minutes later she comes in. She's now seeing all the contractions and getting a real read on my BP. It was as high as 189/109 at one point! She's ready to roll. The text my husband sends to the grandparents reads, "9:00 go time, this is not a drill"
I get prepped, ready to roll, meet the nurse that will be with me the rest of the night and try not to freak out. In Laws come in about 15 minutes before go time (my aunt and uncle came to get the boys) give hugs. My parents walk in 10 minutes later, hugs and tears as I get ready to walk down the hall.
Delivery and tubal went very smooth. Spinal went in easily. 9:46pm our bouncing baby boy was born. 9 pounds 13 oz, 20 1/4 inches long. The doctor thanked me for being persistant because otherwise he would have been 15 lbs at delivery!
My blood pressure didn't come down after delivery. In recovery they had to start giving me magnesium to lower my pressures. After 24 hours of not being able to see Bobby, or even lift my head, they finally were able to take me off and let me go see him. He was admitted to the NICU, because he wasn't breathing quiet right and having trouble eating.
Saturday afternoon, after I was able to get up and move around a bit, they released him from the NICU and up to my room. It was so nice to have him with me!
We were released from the hospital Sunday afternoon, and we both got to come home together!! After leaving the hospital alone after the twins were born, it was really a treat to leave with him!!
Unfortunately, my blood pressure has not really been cooperating and we had to spend another night in the hospital when he was a week old. Luckily they admitted me back to postpartum and he was able to go with me. I was released on Friday, on 2 different types of blood pressure medications. They tell me that it should return to normal in the next month or so, but right now I still feel a bit icky.
Bobby is an amazing baby!! He is currently taking 4 oz every 4 hours and only wakes up for one feeding at night! At his 2 week checkup, he weighed 10 lbs even. I'm slowly getting better, and I have tons of help! Our last baby journey has been an adventure, but we're finally settling in for a happy life!
