Hi ya'll. This is my very first post here at iVillage and I was hoping to get some diverse feedback. I'm a 32 year old single mom and I have a 12 year old son. I've raised him with minimal emotional and financial support from his father. I made the decision to put him in a mid-city Catholic school starting in kindergarten. The area in Louisiana we live in has the worst failing public schools in the state. The school he is in now runs through 8th grade and he is presently starting 6th. My job recently changed and it has allowed me to work closer to his school and my home. The costs of feeding him and his extra needs has slowly risen, but my income has not. At the suggestion of my boyfriend, I started a fundraising page through gofundme.com to help raise money for the extra tuition expenses. Is this tacky? I know the same site was used to raise money for the school bus aid who was tormented by the children and they raised over a million dollars. I am by NO means looking to raise that amount of money, but I figured that if each person that saw the site could just donate a dollar, I'd be at my goal in no time. Any input is appreciated. I also included the link to his site.
