I'm new to this forum but am so relieved to have found a site for exclusive pumpers! My doctor has given me a bit of a hard time for only pumping and not directly feeding and is really pushing me to switch back but now that I've established my supply, I make way more than baby needs and I feel good about putting that extra milk in the freezer for when I stop pumping and want to keep him going on my milk.
However - I'm battling a bad case of mastitis and I'm afraid I'll have to dry up my supply if it keeps coming back. Has anyone else had issues with mastitis? I'm wondering if I established my supply a bit too well and am just making too much milk this early on and shocked my body or something. I pump at least 8 times per day and my LO is 4 weeks today. I probably produce about 40 ounces a day and LO is eating probably 25 ounces a day.
I'm scared to pump less frequently as the mastitis will probably never go away but I don't want to keep increasing my supply either, so I've only been pumping for about 10 minutes on each side to try to keep it under control.
Any thoughts on how to keep the mastitis under control but not increase my supply any more?
