A school district in Connecticut is looking at a plan to charge students a fine if they skip school, $75 per day. They aren't the only school system trying to find a way to get kids to show up in the classrooms.
Schools basically have two options when it comes to battling chronic truancy. There’s the positive approach, in which students are rewarded with iPads, sneakers, gift cards, and other incentives merely for showing up at school. Then there’s the flip side, in which students and parents are penalized for unexcused absences.
Do you think that either is the right choice, to reward or punish kids financially for their attendance?
