Communication has ALWAYS been an issue with DS school. At EVERY parent night, PTO meeting and so on the principal goes on and on about home school connection but it’s like they are so out of touch. I’m at the school less now then I was when he was younger. I no longer have to wait with him in the school yard, and I work so I’m not there after school so I miss the gossip but I shouldn’t be getting school news via the grapevine. Hours changed this year and some parents didn’t even know until they were “late” picking up their kids. We had a lockdown this week, some schools called parents (all be it 30 min later) but no one at ours got a call. I found out the same way I did about the hour change, on FB because the city posted it was lifted.

First few years the school web site was an ok source for info, maybe not THAT up to date but some teachers had webpages and while some kept them more up to date then others at least it was something. Last year they “updated” the website BUT now the ONLY working teacher pages are the school nurse and librarian. Last year his teacher didn’t even have a page; this years does but there is no info on it.

Now this morning I needed to get the number for his PT and notice on the staff list is still teachers who retired or moved to different schools last year and the year before. Come on you can’t even keep an updated directory.

We get teacher assignments the last day of school and some point from when school ended and began a teacher transferred but they didn’t notify the students until the first day of school. Now they line up per class so kids are looking for their teachers name and didn’t see it and in 4th grade most parents just drop and run. I mean if you can’t be bothered to mail notice home of switch at least put both names on the sign so the kids know where to go.
