I don't know if this is specific to SPD or if maybe it's something more. But, my 3.5 year old (who is diagnosed with apraxia and SPD), but he will change him mind quickly on such silly things.
He gets up and wants me to come get him (he's upstairs and it's gated). So, I go upstairs and he says "NO! Don't get me." So, I turn around and he screams, "Come get me!" So, I come back--rinse and repeat.
He wants a PB&J for lunch. I make it and he doesn't want it. I take the sandwich away and he flips out and starts screaming he DOES want it. Rinse and repeat.
These are just a few examples...but it's stuff like this all.day.long. I have told him that I'm not going back and forth, he needs to make a decision and stick with it. And, if he makes a decision and realizes he isn't happy with it..well, too bad. I'm positive we could be on this merry-go-round all day if he wanted.
Is this just an attention/control issue? Or something more? I was thinking maybe OCD b/c he will flip his decision/choice in a nanosecond and flip again just as quickly.
It is so frustrating, so time consuming and gets us both so upset.
