How you know it's not just you're parent goggles

This is so weird.  Lately total strangers keep approaching me on the subway or in other public venues and commenting on how bright my child is from what they've overheard or observed.  And they always turn out to be current or retired teachers.  They always want to know what sort of schooling or activities we're doing with him.  Today it was an elementary school teacher, who assumed he was around 8 and was stunned to find out that the "bright 8 year old" was 6.  Especially weird, because M. is immature for his age in many ways.
