Really confused...Fundamentalist Christian question

Ok, I married a man whose family is different degrees of fundamentalist Christian (my husband is not.) You would think that after 20 years I would have some clue, but I don't.

My BIL is a born again fundamentalist Baptist minister. He is disappointed with the outcome of the presidential election. He posted on social media that he is glad that he knows God is in control of all things because otherwise BIL would be distraught because the liberals in America are wreaking havoc. 

Serious question: If God is in control of all things, doesn't that mean that God wanted the outcome that happened?
