EIC stands for a genetic disorder carried by labs and some other retriever breeds - Exercise Induced Collapse. When the dog is exerting a lot, his hind end can collapse. Seems the brain doesn't send the right signals to the muscles. There is no treatment. A blood test done only at University of Minnesota can detect the gene, and breeders should be sure not to breed dogs with it. It is not painful and usually subsides in a few minutes.
I've watched the videos of what it looks like when a dog has the condition, and it's pretty much what happens to Comet when he gets tired playing fetch. His whole back end just gives out. My vet said that even though it's never been diagnosed in weims, Comet could have some non-Weim donors in his gene pool, so we aren't ruling it out.
Anyone familiar with this condition? I had never heard of it.
