So, my Girl Scout troop has decided to go ahead and plan a Thinking Day activity for our Service Unit. We met at my house last week (to have internet access) and they researched their countries. Russia, China, France, Dominica (the real name of a girl in my troop, but also a little island country), and ? The one pair of girls was just unsure. And we also talked about what they need to have- some basic info, something fun to do/eat/try/see/make based on that country. Each pair of girls will also do a 2nd country to a lesser extent so our tour of the world will seem a little more robust! And I will probably provide stuff for 2 countries myself. The girls decided to not offer a patch to the attendees, but to order some for themselves to represent the country they are doing. We will order from Patchwork Designs. I think it will come together nicely. We have 2 meetings and several weeks with no meeting due to holidays (and while my family travels the world in Epcot and the other Disney parks!!!)- the event will be Feb. 25th. I plan to touch base with all the girls this coming Monday since we won't have our regular meeting.
In other news, my own daughter seems very reluctant to sell cookies, but I have had neighbors practically knocking down my door because they are thinking they have missed her (but she hasn't sold any yet!) The only ones she actually sold herself are to my mom and brother on New Year's Day when we were getting together for the holidays to exchange gifts and even then, I handed her the form 3 times before she actually took it to them. She hasn't even called her other grandma and she hasn't gone to a single neighbor- and it's not because she didn't have time or because the weather was horrible! We have had some uncharicteristically beautiful days that are even t-shirt weather at the high temp point. So, between what my husband has sold at work, what she sold on New Year's and what I've sold only by running into people who begged me to get out the form- she's up to 30 boxes. I told her I am not going to push her to sell this year, but it is rude to not go to the neighbors that we know so well and not give them the opportunity. And there are probably only 5-6 houses that are a must visit. Also in other news- since we had the meeting at our house and her room was such a mess- I helped her for 2 days to clean it up and this week I made her work on clothes (putting away clean clothes typically resulted in picking the least full drawer and putting the entire stack in there if they even got to a drawer at all). So, I made her pull out everything from every drawer and she had to sort, and make a pile of "too small" and sort the rest and put them away. She also had a rude awakening when I found out she hadn't turned in 9 math homeworks. I told her that the school probably wouldn't let her miss a week if she was failing (which she was) and she wouldn't be able to go to Florida with us. Well, it only took about 3 days and she completed everything. I even told her math teacher- a good friend of ours that she might have to stay with them while our family goes away and she said that was fine! I love it when the threat is a good one and they have a good incentive to do what needs done... I just wish that my kids would want to do things because they love me or it's the right thing to do... like fold the basket of laundry that's sitting in the livingroom rather than look at it for 2 days then complain to me when you can't find something! Ok- so this has gotten off topic of scouts- but nobody really reads this too much anymore! It's a good place to rant where the fallout from this info leaking out wouldn't be so bad- like on facebook... too many of their friends have accounts and many arent' even of age yet!
