DD just gave me a breakdown of her university's housing costs. . . and even though I have a 20yo DS in college, I'm SHOCKED. The cost of housing at her university is almost twice the cost at DS's. I didn't even think that was possible, since DS goes to a typical private northeast liberal arts college. I should have known that it would be more for DD because she'll be in NYC but still - $13,000+ for her vs $7000 for a freshman dorm room at DS's college - that was not what I was expecting.
Fortunately DS is moving off campus for his senior year and his new apartment will only cost $5000 for the nine months he'll be there (it's an academic-year rental). I guess I'll be taking the money we're saving from his moving off campus and applying it to DD's cost of housing instead.
I *really* didn't think I could be surprised by university costs anymore, but apparently I was wrong.
