My hubby and I were talking over the weekend about our daughter. She is 17. Finishing up her Junior year of high school. Has a GPA of 3.92.....and it may go higher after this term. She works at a babysitting job anywhere from 1 hour a week to 4 hours a week on average. Does between 4-8 hours of volunteer work a month. She is takijng AP classes next year which will require summer work. He thinks that she should get an additional job this summer. My opinion is that her job is school....getting good grades, studying and doing her summer work for her 2 AP classes, reviewing for the September SAT and ACT tests, are her job, and this could bring in a lot of scholarship money. She studies hard during the school year. During the summer she will be reviewing for the SAT and ACT tests for their Sept test dates, doing AP summer work, babysitting at least 2 1/2 hours a week, doing her volunteer work, etc. and helping me around the house as needed. I think that summer is her time to relax some before her senior year (which has some very hard and demanding classes), visit colleges, have her decide where she is going to apply, and get all in order for early application . She's a good kid who really hasn't given us a lot of trouble in her teenage years, takes, school seriously, and is looking towards her future with college and a career. She earns enough money for her expenses and pays for her chorus trip each year.....plus adds to her savings each year.
