DS is a junior. He was inducted into National Honor Society a couple of weeks ago and they had a ceremony for that. Then we got a letter that he was going to get an award at the underclass awards night. I asked him what it was for & he didn't even know. Each dept. gave out awards and he got an award for English--the only one for 11th grade. Some of the grades had multiple awards so I guess that was impressive. I am wondering how these awards were decided on. He is in AP English but he is also in AP History and no one in the AP History class got an award although there were some kids who got awards for US History I and II. anyway it looks good on the college apps.
What was nice also is they honored some kids for community service. They have a comm. service requirement for graduation--10 hours a year--but I imagine that some kids go beyond that and they honored some kids and are going to put their names on a wall in the school permanently.
