I have a 13 yr old daughter whowas just diagnosed a year ago with ADHD. Although I had suspected it for years I was naive about it all and didn't know I could request her to be tested for it years ago. Basically, while she is at school she can pretty much maintain herself. She has a few social issues but nothing too terrible. It's when she gets home where we have issues. The way it was explained to me was that she has kept herself in control throughout the day so by the time school is out she lets loose. On me. She is like a tornado coming in the door. IF she ever comes in the door quietly and says hello I will fall over right there. It doesn't help that she has a twin sister who helps get her wound up all the way home on the bus so by the time they hit the door it's like an implosion of my front door. My problem is the meds she was given she has to take in the morning, they help a bit, with any concentration issues she has recently developed but by the time she hits home they have started to wear off. I still get the brunt force of her maintaining herself all day. I have been told she needs to take it in the morning so she won't have sleep issues. Now, my son has a friend who takes a pill in the morning and again in the afternoon and he says he doesn't have any sleep issues. He is taking the same meds my daughter was taking. I should say my husband and I decided to pull her off the meds cause it really left very little impact and she was even switched to different ones and just nothing. I need home help. Can I get insight from you as parents who might have been dealing with this for a while now as to what I can request from her doctor? Like a medicine she CAN take in the afternoon that won't keep her up at night? Thanks.
