Warning, this is another rant. I had an interview a couple of weeks ago for a position where the librarian resigned very close to the start of the year. It was supposed to be a permanet position but, then the principal calls me at home and says now it's just a sub position and they are only interviewing two people. One of them is me. It's going to be just him and me at the interview. Ok, I say and go to the interview the next day. i show up and it's actually a committee. It's not a traditional library job. They really need someone to teach freshman how to use iPads because a few years ago they started a 1:1 iPad initiative. I am not an expert but I give the interview my best shot. He tells me he'll call me soon and they will make a decision by the end of the week. So I bet you can guess what i am going to say next.....I don't hear from him until a week and a half later. He calls after the school day is over and leaves a message where he says he will call me the next day. I try calling back but there is no one to answer the phone because school is over. The next day he does not call back. It's obvious that I didn't get the job but couldn't he at least send me an email, a letter or actually call?!!!!
And what makes this whole thing worse is, he and my dh used to work together. My dh sent him an email when this position posted and asked him to look at my application. Also this principal's wife works in my dh's district so he knows her too. I guess it doesn't even matter if you have a personal connection to someone. Common courtesy is actually dead. I have gotten to the point where I do not believe any interviewer anymore. It's a sad state of affairs that much more often than not, admistrators do not make contact with me to let me know I didn't get the job. How hard is it to send an email? I hate being so cynical but, my experiences have mostly been bad and that's just how I feel now.
