I DID IT! I DID IT!! I completed my first 5K in many, many, many years this morning despite very cold temps and pouring rain. Not only did I do well for my age group but I finished very well overall. I am not sure about my time yet but have a rough estimate of what it was and I am very pleased. (I never saw the big red timer at the finish line until AFTER the race and someone pointed it out to me-LOL-but I wasn't the only person there that never saw it!) I was shocked at how many people turned out despite the horrible weather.
I got to the race early enough that I got a parking spot not too far from the starting line. I sat in my car as long as I could then headed to the potties which were litterally right by the start. I warmed up as best as I could and headed to the gate. (I couldn't decide if I wanted to run in the bag or not but hindsight I am glad I didn't.) It was only drizzling at that point but very windy and I didn't have to stand there long thankfully. I actually felt great the whole race despite the cold driving rain during a big chunk of it, and when I found that I was close to the finish I realized I may have been a little too conservative. But I did it and I am so glad I did!
Woohoo! I am feeling great right now. I've got a pork tenderloin in the oven and I'm going to relax and watch TV the rest of the day.
