But no, AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH.
A bill collector called dh's parents' house last night, looking for dh. When dh was 17 he had a Texaco card, and it was eventually charged off with maybe $600 on it. Now, 17 years later, a bill collector calls dh's parents, wo still live at the same address, and tell dh's dad that he has defaulted on his Texaco card owing over $3000. He tells dh's dad this is a recent debt.
We don't even use CCs anymore. We don't even have a gas card. I didn't even know dh back then.
Legally, the debt is unenforcebale becaue 1) dh was under 18 and 2) the statute of limitations passed 13 years ago. So I am not worried about it from that standpoint.
But knowing how collectors are, since dh's talked to them, he gave them our new phone number and my name as well, and they have already called our house today. I do not want to deal with this crap again. But I absolutely refuse to pay $3K on a debt I never owed that they cannot legally enforec just because they will harrass us illegally. It was illegal to call dh's dad, to tell dh's dad about the debt, to discuss anything with dh's dad. So, they have proven they will not follow the law.
They even asked dh's dad to pay it off for him, putting pressure on dh's dad. Of course, thinking this is current adn relevant, dh's dad was very angry with us, wanting to know why debt collectors are calling him about our bills when we should make plenty of money to pay our debts.
I just don't want to have to edal with this bs again.
