My daugheter, Cady, is going to be 10 months old on Saturday. She has an early intervention appointment coming up (the intake appointment is Wednesday). Her ped thinks that she has some sensory issues on top of food aversion. I'm hoping you intelligent ladies can share some advice.
Here are some Cady's 'quirks'. She must be moving at all times. I mean ALL times! She moves so much in her sleep that she wakes herself up. She is always kicking her legs and flailing her arms when I am attempting to get her to eat. She will pull her hair while she is starting to fall asleep and then start to hit her head, smack her legs, or pinch her face. She can't seem to sit still in her high chair. There hasn't been a meal that her legs and feet haven't ended up on the table and she hasn't ended up wedged sideways in the seat. Even when she is sitting on the floor, both feet have to be moving and kicking. She is fascinated with eating things, especially paper and cat hair. She actually pulls the hair off the cat or will bite the cat directly. Cady bites everything that gets near her. She has actually put holes in my pants by biting them. She starts crying immediately if anything bumps her head, even a sponge ping pong ball. She will start screaming if her older brother gets too close to her while playing. She doesn't like loud noises. She can't stand being in the car. When we are out in public, like grocery shopping, she will start screaming if people just make eye contact with her. She will scream if people talk to her, even just the usual "aren't you a cutie" comments. It took her 4 months to even let DH hold her after birth, and even now, there are times that she won't let him hold her. When she is sleeping, she will wake up and scream. When I get her out of the crib she tenses her whole body and jerks and flails and I can barely hold on to her.
Her food issues are something like this....She had undiagnosed and untreated silent reflux for 9 months. Now that she is getting treatment, she doesn't seem to be improving. She will scream if she sees a jar of baby food. She will scream if you show her something like a Gerber Puff. She will take 2 bites of anything solid and then arch her back and scream. She will only take her bottle if she is half asleep, or sleeping. On a good day she will take about 16 ounces of breast milk. That is on a REALLY good day. Most days I am looking more at 12 ounces.
What do you guys think....is this sensory problems or just a high maintenance baby? Any advice on how to get her to sleep better, she currently wakes up every hour or so. Anything I need to mention during her evaluation?
If you read all this....THANKS!!!
