Hello all, I'm new to the board and I have some general questions - would love any input from ladies who have btdt! I pray for each one of you that are trying to have a child and hope that this post doesn't get taken the wrong way. I've not had to have any treatment to have children but now find myself seriously considering one more pregnancy. I am 41 and have 4 children ages 19, 16, and 3 1/2 (one set of twins) and am getting remarried soon. Stepfather to be would like us to consider having a child together.
The last medical test I had done when I was experiencing heavy bleeding last spring was a u/s which showed I was about to ovulate twice.
My questions are these, thank you in advance for any advice on any of them!
1- How spendy is genetic counseling? Is it worth it? We're concerned about my age. He's 40, no kids. My twins were conceived at 38 and were perfectly healthy, as was the pregnancy, to term.
2- How risky and accurate are early tests such as chorionic villus sampling?
3- What is the likelihood I'd conceive twins again without hormones? We wouldn't mind but don't want to take drugs in case we'd have way more than two. Are there any 'old wives remedies' I can begin taking soon to increase the likelihood of 2 eggs being released? I desperately hope this isn't taken to be a stupid question!!
4- What are the odds at this age of defects? Is Down's Syndrome the only defect due to age or are there more?
Sorry to ask so much and I fully realize I won't get all the answers I'm looking for but if any of you have ideas of where to go to (efficiently) research the above I would greatly appreciate it!
Good luck to all of you! Thank you for reading!
