So .. yesterday was Elijahs 6 mo well child visit. As I've mentioned before we do one injection at a time .. I'm plenty happy with this decision, he'll be vaccinated, which DH and I agree is important, and I feel better about possible reactions, etc. Our ped is fine with this .. she knows that I know what the recommended schedule is, etc. but has told me that he's my baby and I have to do what I feel is the best for him... did I mention that I love our ped? :)
Anyway ... so the nurse came in yesterday to let the ped know she had forgotten to order two other vaccines for Elijah .. the ped told her we were only getting one and would come back for the other .. and that we hadn't started Hep B yet at all, so we'd worry about that later. The nurse kinda gave me "the eye" and told me its traumatic to the baby to keep coming back for shots. (uh, huh ..) So after the ped left the room, the nurse came back to give the shots and while she was drawing up the vaccine, etc. she said to me "I just don't understand, don't you worry about bringing something home from work?" ... (knowing that I work at the hospital). I quickly replied "Not HepB .. I wear my gloves, wash my hands and take the proper precautions. There is no way for me to bring Hep B home to him, and he's got the rest of his vaccines, so no, I don't worry." She didn't say another word.
UGH! The things I worry about bringing home are things that can't be vaccinated against .. MRSA, VRE, C.Diff, even TB or chickenpox (which he is too young to be vacc'd against) or some other off-the-wall infectious disease -- but really .. Hep B?! She makes me embarrassed for nurses everywhere!
Just had to share ;)
