I haven't be here for a while, but now I'm back and need some advice. My daughter (7) is in 2nd grade and is slow in her reading, which makes her slower to do her worksheets. She is getting help at school once per week and we have signed her up for a tutor 3x per week outside of school. The reason for this is to get her caught up to her classmates in reading. Her teacher expressed to me after 8 days of school that she thought maybe she should go back to 1st grade due to her 'slowness'. I just spoke to her teacher again yesterday to see if she is improving and her teacher did say a little, but again stated that she wonders if she would do better in 1st grade again. I asked my daughter how she felt about going back to 1st grade and she started crying immediately (it was a tough night after that). She has some trouble staying focused and being distracted, but it is getting better, as is her reading. I feel like the teacher is, for lack of a better term, out to get her. Should I say something to the principal now or wait to see what her report card says (comes out on Nov 18)? The school does not know that she is getting additional reading help outside of school. She knows the skills being taught in school, but due to her low level of reading sometimes doesn't get the sheets done in the alloted time frame and has to finish them later, hence why her teacher says she is slow. Help! I need some advice how to handle this. Should we send her back now before she completes 2nd grade?
