I emailed my Senator, Sam Brownback (R-KS), to ask him to support women's rights re: reproductive choice in any health care reform. I mostly signed it to see how he would respond because, of course, I know that he is a staunch conservative. I received a letter today in which he thanks me for my concern but basically tells me there's not shot in hell that he'd support any such measure. No big surprise there. But he does say this:
"Health care decisions should be made by doctors and patients, not by bureaucrats in Washington, and I will oppose any legislation that threatens that relationship."
But he'll publically support making abortion illegal? He'll say in his letter to me that "health care decisions should be made by doctors and patients" but support Washington bureaucrats in removing choices re: reproductive freedoms from women and their doctors? How can you possibly doublethink around that one? It makes me dizzy.
