? about Daytrana patch (ritalin)

We recently started my child on the daytrana patch. I am having a terrible time opening it. It doesn't want to peel off the backing. It is a mess by the time I get it off. I have spoken to the doc and the pharmacist. Neither was helpful. Does anyone here have any suggestions? Switching meds is not a good idea. This child is one another medication which doesn't work well with most ADD meds.
