My husband's ex is a little vain in my opinion. She overheard her dad telling her mom one day that they had to do something about her appearance when she was a preteen, got made fun of for being flat chested in high school and felt like boys never liked her. She even mentioned that recently someone told her she wasn't all that good looking, but she "cleaned up real nice" when she put effort into it. My stepdaughter tells me that her mom spends a forever on her hair and makeup. My stepdaughter is turning out the same way, she is constantly flipping her hair and talking about being beautiful. She gets sad if boys don't smile and wave at her, she gets her feelings hurt if boys don't want to play with her (she's in kindergarten, boys don't even like girls at this age) and just recently she was at our house and started doing sit-ups on the rug because she says it will help her not get fat. Her mom is always telling her how beautiful she is and how beautiful everything she does is... beautiful is their word for everything good. I'm just the step-mom, I can't really intervene, but is my stepdaughter getting the wrong message here about her appearance?
