The third graders had their end of year picnic today, and Nathan got a sunburn.
I even showed up to the picnic to deliver something, and I had sunscreen in my purse. I even said, "Hmmm, maybe I should put some sunscreen on you...." But unscented sunscreen is a rare and expensive thing, and my little tube of it is almost out, so I rationalized that he didn't need it, despite the fact that he still had three more hours out there, and it was a hazy, high-UV kind of day. He looked a shade darker when I picked him up from school, but now, at bedtime, he's red, hot, and in pain.
So, who else here grew up in the 70's, when it was fashionable to burn until you peel? A peeling sunburn was something to wear with pride. Of course, now we know better. At least we should!
