I've posted here sporadically but haven't stopped by in about a year. My older DS Austin (7.5) was dx with Aspergers at age 5.5; now that he is in first grade we are really struggling with homework and attention issues. We have chosen to give him 25 mg Strattera for some of his hyper behaviors and it does seem to give him a little bit more focus, but his ability to learn simple sight words and sound out words is poor. We took him a couple of weeks ago to a private office for testing and were not surprised to learn that he is about 2.5 years behind his age in auditory processing and logic/reasoning. The office that provided the testing uses the PACE program to boost areas where a child has deficiencies. I've done some surfing online but can't find many independent opinions about this program. Has anyone here used PACE or heard anything about success/failure with Aspergers kids? They boast a 98 percent retention rate of the skills they teach after one year, but so far I can't find anything to conclusively show that these skills are retained and integrated into the child's learning skills beyond one year. The price for this program is pretty high and we want some objective feedback before we make this decision.
TIA for any opinions or advice.
