I'm Lynnae and I have 2 children, a 6 year old girl and an 18 month old boy. My daughter, Hannah, has not been officially diagnosed, but her speech teacher suspects AS (and so do I). Looking back, she had some major signs of AS (or even full blown autism) at a young age. She would bang her head, would repeat her videos verbatim, and she didn't have any original speech, only echolalia, until she was 5. In the last year she's caught up beautifully. She's in a regular kindergarten class and is a very good reader. She still has problems with social skills, but we're working on it.
My concern at the moment is my son, Jonathan. I keep telling myself that I'm paranoid, but he only says "hi" and "bye". I'm not sure about his receptive language. If I ask where Hannah is, he turns to look at her, and he will get his shoes if I ask him to, and half the time he will get a book if I ask him to, but those are the only commands he follows. He doesn't point to show interest in things. He loves to play with cars, and doesn't really spin the wheels, but his favorite thing to do is throw toys over the edge of anything and watch them drop. He could do that all day. However, he has good eye contact and loves to play games like peek-a-boo. He is also more attatched to me than Hannah ever was. I'm waiting for a call back from EI to schedule an evaluation, and I'm dreading it.
Anyway, that's my life at the moment. I've been lurking here for a while, and you all seem so supportive and knowledgable. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
