I'm new here to this board, but not to PP. I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. I'm an old member of numerous boards, including "pregnant after recurrent miscarriage" (PARM), among others. My DS Jack just turned 3. He was my first born after losing my first 4 pgs. I also have a 1 yo DS, Nate.
Jack was a sensitive baby and hypotonic, although he wasn't Dx'd w/ that until he was 9 mos & started missing gross motor milestones. I also have a 9 yo niece w/ the same history as Jack. She was hypotonic, dev delayed & speech delayed. She now has a Dx'd of ADD, OCD and OD. Jack has hypotonia, gross & fine motor delays, speech and oral motor apraxia and SID. At 2 1/2 yrs old (this past Nov) he was Dx'd w/ PDD-NOS and ADHD.
Jack has been receiving some type of therapy since he was around 12 mos. Progress has been extremely slow, up until very recently. Just before turning 3 a few weeks ago, it was like someone threw a switch. He's actually starting to speak spontaneously. He still needs a lot of prompting and the quality of the speech sounds like as if he were deaf. Up until this time we couldn't even get him to say "bye bye" and now he's actually putting some simple words together. His overall improvement has been wonderful. Of course, there's still SO FAR to go...
That's the short version of my story - LOL! I used to be very active on different boards, including as a Co-CL. But after having my 2nd son (who thankfully is developing normally), and dealing w/ so much w/ Jack, I couldn't find the time to keep up. But every once in a while I would surf around looking for a PDD-NOS site or support group and couldn't find much, since everything was mostly specifically "autism". So, it's so nice to have found you all!
