Some of you know that I've been suffering severe health problems over the last few years and doctors haven't been able to figure out what was going on. Well, it looks like they finally did!
It started when I was 6yo believe it or not. I had 4 heart attacks associated with rheumatic fever and was given heavy antibiotics to help deal with the situation. The fever kept coming back, so they kept giving me the antibiotics. Over the years I've had so much tetracycline that I can't even remember the number of treatments. Well, by the time I was 19 they'd apparently begun killing off the parent cultures of the bacteria in my digestive tract that are required to process food and control enzyme production in the system.
Now, I'd been given probiotics, as this is a common side effect of the stronger antibiotics, but no one had expected certain parent cultures to get killed off. My current gp kept going back to this and the fact that I'd had so many different really heavy antibiotics at almost regular intervals throughout my life. He finally broke down and did the "I just want to see..." and gave me some probiotics the rheumatologist insisted I didn't need.
SHAWING! That did the trick! I started feeling better within 48 hours. I started gaining weight like it was the absolute In Thing, my migraines vanished, my energy levels skyrocketed, and all my digestive problems went away, and my bone density was up to safe levels in 7 months.
But, there is a down side to it too. I haven't had to really worry about the rheumatic fever in over a decade, because every time I had even a hint of the bacterial families that cause the tacs (heart ulcers) to appear I was given the antibiotics. These are some of the most common bacterial families around too, which means that it was inevitable that I'd be faced with one sooner rather than later. BUT, my cardiologist made the decision to stave off the idea of jumping on treatment at the first hints of infection and see if I was going to start having problems or not. Sure enough, I had an ear infection, which became heart palpitations and sever fatigue within a day. I was checked out at the hospital and, yup, the infection was going staph. SO, I was given Azithromycin, with tonnes of follow up orders, including a supervised series of probiotics. When I told my mother that I had to take the Z-pack she cried, but it came down to weather I wanted to die quickly from a heart attack or slowly from the EID. With the EID there's time to do something about it, so I chose that.
So, anyway, now I'm all better, no infections, no EID, but I live in a fragile balance and could develop either at any given time. His MajAspie is now paranoid that if I take care of the kids when they're sick it's going to kill me. He even had his apprentice come over take care of them when our house got hit by a round of strep throat. Anyway, he's starting to calm down a little, and that's something I can deal with.
But, anyway, I just thought those of you who knew I'd been in FUD category would want to know that it appears we've found the problem. Oh, and take it from me, anytime you take antibiotics or give them to your kids, make sure to follow up with that Activia yogurt stuff for two weeks. It's not enough to restart a parent culture, but it's enough to keep a parent culture from dying off in the first place.
