Gone off on a different tangent---Dec. Exercise?

One Those Days -- December Exercise, First Part

"Life isn't fair." Many people had told her. "You have to do what's best for you." She had heard time and time again. Those two phrases floated through her mind, over and over, as she became conscious.

It was Monday morning. Mindy was running late. She had not wanted to get out of bed. The weekend had not been enough time off. It never was.

She stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around her head. It felt funny. Dammit! She had forgot to rinse the conditioner off again. She got back in the shower.

Query letter (repost from archived board) ... can I get some feedback please?

Dear Agent:

A week before her 16th birthday, Mckenna Campbell’s dad is killed when he intervenes in a dispute on the university campus where he is a professor. Suddenly the safe, happy world that Mckenna has always known is gone. She stumbles through the next few months in a fog, finding the loss of the parent she was closest to almost unbearable. One hot August day, her mother announces that she is going back to school to complete her master’s degree…in NewYork.

December Writing Exercise . . . please let me know what you think.
