The Journey

New here, with a quick question: present tense, or past tense?

Hi, I'm Teri, a SAHM of 4 in Oregon. I've been lurking on the board for about a week, trying to get anything that might be worth posting! =)

Currently I am playing around with a few ideas, but keep having problems keeping my tenses straight. Should it be present tense (ie: "the door flies open") or past tense (ie: "the door flew open").

Any help would be appreciated! TIA!

Teri

Thanks Jennifer!

Thanks so much for the positive comments, Jennifer. Your feedback really helped. Cladrienne pointed out the same problem, so I plan on changing the structure a bit. I'm glad I could provide a few laughs for you! This particular memory is one of the funniest I savor from childhood.

At Theryn's suggestion, here are some beginnings you can borrow.

It can be challenging to begin a story with a given first line--especially one that starts in the middle. You can borrow a line from a poem, make one up, or use the ones here. The objective of borrowing a line is to start a story in media res--in the middle of things. Starting in the middle creates a hook and forces you to focus your writing.

Hey Jessica I am still looking for the Horror Chat transcript. The chat was before Halloween. ......

When do you think it will be up? It has been almost a month now or at least three weeks. Just thought I should ask. Thanks and Take Care Samantha
