CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

When anyone asked me about my childhood I would usually cringe and remember only the bad things that happened. If I put aside the terror, when my parents fought and violence erupted, my mother having to leave us for two years and the death of my maternal grandfather, I can then examine some of the bright moments of my childhood and rejoice in them.

Okay, here it is. My October Writing Exercise.

The time is the year 1066 A.D. The Norman's have invaded England. King Harold of England has fallen to the conquerer, William, in the Battle of Hastings.

THE JOURNEY

Long ago, in a far off, war torn land, two women made their way through the night. The Norman soldiers had burned the village, killing all those that had hoped to find safety within the castle walls. Hidden from site within a small grove of trees, the women stopped to formulate a plan.

Her Idle Threat

It was a dark and stormy night as John stared out of the window of his 12th story office. The ice in the glass tinkled as he drained the last of his scotch and water. His reflection stared back at him through the window glass as he ran his fingers through his hair. The man he saw was a stranger. He didn’t like this man. This man was hurting too much.

A Very Short Story!

It was Christmas Eve and I must have been around 7. My brother Larry was out to have some fun with me. He wanted to make me think Santa Claus was there, at our house, on the roof. He went into my bedroom, into my closet, up into the attic and started to walk around and stomp his feet.

I remember the sound of bells and a loud thud. I ran from the living room out into the yard to see if Santa Claus had landed on the roof. I thought for sure I would see reindeer up there. No such luck.

ORENDA

An eerie thick fog surrounded Jesse as she walked out the back door. The air was a dense mass that obliterated the sight of the trees, the picnic table, and the steps to the sidewalk. It was like opening a door into the land of "Oz."

"Wow." She said. "I'll have to feel my way to the garbage can to dump this bag."
