"Whatever one wishes to say, there is one noun only by which to express it,
one verb only to give it life, one adjective only which will describe it. One must search until one has discovered them, this noun, this verb, this adjective, and never rest content with approximations, never resort to trickery, however happy, or to vulgarisms, in order to dodge the difficulty." Gustave Flaubert
Jessica, Here's a Quote
Sportswriter Walter Wellesley "Red" Smith is credited with the great quote, "There's nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein."
Today's his birthday so I thought I'd share that.
You don't want my Faulkner quote. Trust me. (It's at The Writing Life under today's history if you want to check it out.)

I only have access to the internet when I'm working. I am an aspiring writer. I would like information on workshops, and possibly a group with writers who can critique my work.
just wanted to see what you thought.......
hello everybody...
i was writing a poem and just wanted to see what you thought of this verse...
could her dream forever whisper how truth alone is passion to children needing sugar kissed laughter
thanks for the feedback
I'm searching
I'm searching for an published author who has knowledge about publishing and agents. I'm hoping she can give me information about finding a good literary agent and some steps to eventually getting published. What is the correct procedure for submitting my work? I'm almost finished my book and I think I'm ready to test the waters. I hope someone can help.
Aspiring Biographer Has Questions
I'm new to this board, but I'm hoping I have found the right place. I am having a hard time finding books and articles on writing biographies. I can find lots about memoir writing and non-fiction writing, but almost nothing about the unique challenges of writing biographies --- especially of someone who is dead. I'm especially interested in how to go about researching. Are there writer groups? Also, anyone with tips from experience, I would welcome their thoughts. Thanks in advance for your replies.
A word about web sites....and simple page formatting
I just made an interesting new discovery!
While it's great to do HTML for web pages with a lot of "decoration" and formatting, certain pages on sites (which probably pertains to writers, especially) should be very simple, so that they can be printed out without a lot of extras.
New to Writing Class
I loved the writing class last night, Wed. Sept.22 -- my first time and I found it very motivating -- this morning I got out my notes and began once again to write ideas for short stories. Thanks again to Jessica and all for a very informative and interesting hour.
